Dr. Finney co-founded
Xactagen in 2004. Previously, he co-founded and was President and CSO of
Pangenex, Inc., a majority-owned subsidiary of Cell Therapeutics, Seattle,
WA. At Pangenex, Dr. Finney was responsible for developing the
company’s business strategy, directing genomics-based research operations
to achieve company goals, and attaining intellectual property filings on
Pangenex genetic-engineering technologies. Prior to Pangenex, he was
director of Cell Biology for Cell Therapeutics, where he was responsible
for evaluating intervention of drug candidates in cancer-relevant signaling
pathways, screening of drug candidates in cancer models, and validation
of drug-discovery targets. He was also responsible for leading scientific
teams to attain IND filings. As a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University
of California, San Francisco (UCSF), Dr. Finney was among the first to develop
methods to modify mammalian genomes using homologous recombination, in order
to evaluate functions of cancer-causing genes. Dr. Finney received
his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1985.
